Brooklyn and Staten Island Siphon Replacement

Brooklyn/Staten Island, New York<br style='line-height:2px'>New York City Economic Development Corporation

HAKS provided a detailed topographical, utility and right-of-way survey for the existing and proposed locations of the water siphons that connect Brooklyn and Staten Island. Photogrammetric mapping was used for the base maps with detailed information surveyed by field crews in both boroughs. To unify both sides of the harbor, all mapping was performed in the NAD83 NYS Plane Coordinate System and the North American Vertical Datum by utilizing GPS relative positioning techniques for controls and conventional land surveying for supplemental street survey.

 Surveying services included:

  • Topographical base maps of Shore Road from 79th Street to 86th Street, including existing building footprints in Brooklyn and sections of Staten Island
  • Cross-section survey of all streets with elevations on all utility hardware
  • Utility survey and mapping, including existing water siphons crossing the harbor
  • Right-of-way research and mapping
  • Aerial control locations and calculations
  • Existing borings located and plotted on the aerial base maps

HAKS also provided construction and permanent easements for the replacement of the water siphons.
