Philadelphia ADA Ramp Reconstruction

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania<br style='line-height:2px'>City of Philadelphia

HAKS is performing complete topographical, boundary and base plan preparation services for a City of Philadelphia $11 million design-build project involving the reconstruction of over 2,750 curb ramps to bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project requires ongoing coordination between the design team, the contractor and the City of Philadelphia to ensure a constant flow of deliverables for the contractor to maintain an aggressive construction schedule. The surveying crews assigned to this project are required to work off-peak hours to ensure safe, uninterrupted access to the intersections for surveyors, pedestrians and vehicular traffic.

Following the initial pre-construction meetings, an aggressive schedule was prepared that mandated that milestone deliveries for the topographical plan sets be transmitted every Friday.   All designs are being completed using strict PennDOT format. This constant flow of information helped the project team meet its overall schedule for approval and ultimate delivery to the contractor.

The HAKS surveyors used a variety of equipment that included robotic instruments, GPS units, laser levels, and conventional electronic instruments to perform detailed surveys of the various intersections. To expedite the delivery process, and where needed, HAKS transmitted information electronically using laptops and remote internet connections.
