New York State Thruway Interchange with I-84 Building Complex

Prior to joining HAKS, Francisco Ruela, AIA, LEED AP was managing principal for architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and landscape design for a number of buildings that were part of a project to provide an interchange between Interstate 84 and the New York State Thruway in Newburgh, New York.

Located on New York State Thruway Authority property, the buildings included a 13,500-square-foot state police building, a 41,680-square-foot consolidated headquarters building, a vehicle maintenance garage, a 7,200-square-foot storage shed and two salt storage sheds.  The state police building was designed with a linear skylight over a central corridor to maximize daylight.  Other features included an entrance lobby and display wall, lighting controls, operable windows, secure armory, and evidence and training rooms.

The $46 million project was designed to LEED criteria and the consolidated headquarters building is LEED Silver certified.
