P.S. 21 Auditorium Upgrade

P.S. 21 is located at 715 East 225th Street in New York. The school serves grades K-5 and Special Education. The date of construction of the original two-story masonry structure is unknown. In 1915, a two-story addition was added and, in 1942, the original building was demolished and a new three-story steel framed/masonry building was added.

The intent of this project was to upgrade the existing 4,400-square-foot auditorium. The scope of work included new floor finishes, re-finishing the existing walls and ceilings, replacement of existing seating with new natural finished maple wood seating, including provisions for handicapped seating, general lighting, emergency and stage lighting, including new border lights and spot lights. Equipment upgrades included a new projector and screen, with the projector installed at the existing projection room, and a new local sound system with specialized equipment for the hearing impaired. Work for the local sound system was integrated into an ongoing facility public address system upgrade. Existing acoustical panels at the walls and ceiling were repainted with non-bridging paint to maintain the acoustical integrity of the original design of the auditorium.  Existing doors were maintained and refinished.
