Pathways to Graduation High School (Q950 at K515) Conversion of Classrooms and Administrative Offices

Pathways to Graduation High School in Queens is located at the South Shore Educational Campus, a reinforced concrete 400,000-square-foot building serving grades 9 through 12. This $636,000 project entails the conversion of the library into four classrooms and four administrative offices. HAKS provided architectural services under an architectural and MEP contract with the SCA in support of its capital improvement program.

The newly converted 9,000-square-foot space is located on the second floor of the school building and has a circular floor plan. The space is to be divided into four classrooms and four administrative offices, all located on the periphery of the circular floor plan with a central circular space used as a waiting/recreational area. The administrative offices include one large office for the guidance counselor, one small office for the social worker, a safe room, and one computer laboratory study area with desktop computers. All interior partitions were preserved and refinished. A few new wall partitions divide the office area into smaller offices. All finishes, including the ceiling, flooring and paint, were to be replaced. New energy-efficient light fixtures and new flooring were provided throughout the entire space. A new split AC unit system was provided for the new office spaces, as requested by the SCA.

All the classrooms were refurnished. The central new waiting area was also refurnished with new flooring and new lighting fixtures to complement the circular shape. Minor plumbing was required to replace the sink. New electrical connections, as well as duplex and quadruplex outlets, were installed in all new spaces
