Prudential Financial QMA Restack

Prior to joining HAKS, Francisco A. Ruela, AIA, LEED AP, was principal-in-charge for the renovation of a 45,000-square-foot office space for the headquarters of Prudential’s Quantitative Management Associates subsidiary. The 20-plus-year-old space was in need of major remodeling to accommodate the tremendous growth experienced by QMa, and to incorporate the latest thinking in workplace design.

The renovation included a reception and waiting area off the new elevator lobby; a technology/product display room for employee and client use; a large board room with extensive audio-visual capabilities; a marketing production room; an employee lunch room; and newly designed employee rest rooms.

The design made extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glass for private offices to allow natural light to penetrate deep into the interior of the building. Conference rooms also used glass extensively; however, Mr. Ruela’s team recommended the use of electrified liquid crystal glass (Snap-Glass) that made the glass opaque for private meetings. Pendant-mounted indirect lighting fixtures in the open office areas and in-ceiling indirect lighting fixtures ensure optimum working conditions.

The $9 million project included program verification, schematic design, design development, contract documents, and construction administration. Services included interior design, MEP and fire protection engineering.
