ConnDOT Sign Support Inspections

HAKS is providing inspection and evaluation services for overhead sign support structures and mast arms—including bridge-mounted, cantilever and full-spanning sign trusses—throughout the State of Connecticut.  In addition to inspections, our services include non-destructive testing, collecting/checking inventory data, performing minor routine maintenance, preparing memoranda for more serious repairs, and analysis. Inspection reports are generated using detailed field notes, sketches and photos. Conditions and evaluation coding are submitted to ConnDOT through an access database with the final product delivered as a hard copy.

Conditions found by HAKS include section loss to the base of posts and cross bracing members; section loss in horizontal arms that had poor/incorrect galvanizing; cracked welds, some propagating into the main member; loose, damaged or insufficient fasteners; missing handhole covers exposing wires; impact damage to posts, arms and panels; and damaged anchor bolts of bridge-mounted signs due to impact during plowing operations.

Wherever possible, sign inspections are performed in conjunction with bridge inspections to make efficient use of equipment and limit impact on traffic.
