Nassau County Disaster and Debris Monitoring

HAKS is providing the Nassau County Department of Public Works with Program Management services for disaster and debris monitoring and assisting the county with other special needs and events.

The project requires monitoring the recovery efforts of the county’s debris management contractors (DMC) in accordance with the Stafford Act and Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) policies and guidelines. We are monitoring debris collection, temporary debris management sites (TDMS) and residential debris drop-off sites as well as the work of DMCs and providing recommendations to improve efficiency.

Services are separated into two categories: TDMS management and debris collection and disposal monitoring. Within 24 hours of notice to proceed, we meet with county officials at the Emergency Operation Center to help document emergency debris removal operations and organize contractor mobilization.

HAKS is adhering to all requirements and regulations established by FEMA, the Federal Highway Administration, New York State Department of Transportation, New York State Emergency Management Office, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nassau County and other governmental agencies with jurisdiction over response and recovery actions.
