2013 Garden State Parkway Bridge Inspection Program

New Jersey<br style='line-height:2px'>New Jersey Turnpike Authority

HAKS provided biennial inspection and evaluation services on highway bridges along the Garden State Parkway along Mileposts 123 to 149 on the GSP North and Mileposts 0 to 96 on the GSP South for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. This project encompassed routine and in-depth inspections of 265 NJTA-owned bridges, including underwater inspections and courtesy inspections for structures owned by other agencies. This project also involved load rating of bridges using AASHTOWare and MDX.

Critical items included coordination of  inspections and maintenance and protection of traffic with state and local police on limited-access highways and local roads, NJTA’s Operations Department and with the U.S. Coast Guard for bridges over navigable waterways; identification of fracture-critical members, maintenance history and new developments; 100% hands-on inspection of fracture-critical members and fatigue-prone details and non-destructive testing; addressing critical conditions through the issuance of Category A Reports and maintenance of lane closures to enable NJTA to provide emergency repairs; coordination with contractors and NJTA for the inspection of structures undergoing active rehabilitation or replacement; and documentation of structural conditions in NJTA virtual software (InspectTech), including repair recommendations, quantities and preparation of maintenance memoranda for structures requiring repairs.
