NYCHA Exterior Site Lighting Upgrades

HAKS prepared plans and specifications for improved site lighting as part of the Mayor’s Anti-Violence Initiative at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments. We provided services for three separate packages to upgrade the site lighting at 11 developments, for a total of 150 buildings and over 200 acres of site area requiring enhanced illumination.  Lighting will be installed at walkways, parking lots, basketball courts and other recreational areas such as tennis courts.

HAKS conducted a site lighting analysis to determine the proper number and layout of new LED lighting fixtures, provide a layout and photometric analysis using the selected LED fixtures, and design the new site lighting along with concrete foundations, conduit and wiring.  We also prepared an existing condition report for a clear determination of existing site lighting and will provide recommendations for physical improvements to achieve project goals.

The assignment included design of a new electrical system and panels/controls to be dedicated to the new site lighting. The electrical room of each building will have a lighting controller that utilizes both a photocell and time clock to control the lighting within the vicinity of the building.

Once NYCHA approves the condition reports, we will create a basis of design report that will address any comments to the condition report and commence producing the 70%, 90%, and 100% design documents.

The project received the 2017 ACEC New York Platinum Engineering Excellence Award.
