NYCHA Post-Hurricane Sandy CM Emergency Response

Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York<br style='line-height:2px'>New York City Housing Authority

HAKS responded to Hurricane Sandy under its contract with NYCHA to provide CM oversight of emergency services for public housing developments in Coney Island and Red Hook (East and West), Brooklyn and in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island.

In Coney Island and Red Hook, some of the most battered parts of New York City, HAKS managed the work of about 10 contractors with approximately 150 skilled trades and laborers working two 12-hour shifts on a 24/7 schedule. HAKS managed all MEP work for the installation of temporary boilers and generators and for the emergency replacement of damaged electrical equipment and water pumps to restore water to affected buildings.  HAKS’ quick response to Hurricane Sandy returned power, heat and hot water to 44 buildings in Coney Island and 28 buildings in Red Hook within three weeks of the storm. HAKS maintained these emergency systems installations and oversaw clean-up operations at both public housing developments.  Additionally, HAKS provided condition assessments of buildings for short- and long-range restoration.

In Mariners Harbor, HAKS managed cleaning and restoration services for 22 NYCHA public housing development buildings.
