Paulding Avenue Reconstruction, Phase 2

HAKS provided Resident Engineering Inspection for Phase 2 of the Paulding Avenue reconstruction project in the Bronx for the New York City Department of Design and Construction. The objective of the $29 million project in the Williamsbridge section was to replace distribution and trunk water mains and sewers, reconstruct curbs and sidewalks and rehabilitate roadways. Construction challenges included narrow, mostly one-way streets and traffic congestion characteristic of the area.  A major challenge was providing a safe working environment. With five schools in the area, much of the water main replacement had to be performed at night. Work on major streets required decking and plating to ensure safety.

Community benefits included improved drainage, elimination of flooding, and an enhanced neighborhood appearance. HAKS’ construction community liaison remained in communication with residents and community representatives throughout construction and the field office handled all water shut-down notifications and related issues.

HAKS provided inspection services for Phase 1, which was completed in April 2010.
