AirTrain Newark Repair

AirTrain Newark shuttles passengers to, from and around Newark Liberty International Airport, providing connection to airline terminals, rental car facilities, hotel shuttles and central parking lots. It also connects to New Jersey Transit and rail lines that run on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line, and offers a means for passengers to get to and from Manhattan and points north or Philadelphia and points south.

While structurally safe, areas on the system's 6.3-mile running surface that consists of a welded steel grid and epoxy grout were showing signs of erosion and needed replacement. Service was suspended for 75 days beginning in May 2014 to allow The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to perform this critical repair work to the on-airport rail system.

HAKS’ Special Inspection Agency inspected repairs during this mandated 75-day timeframe.  In order to meet the schedule, inspections were performed in three shifts to monitor progress and adherence to design specifications and safety protocols. Inspections encompassed structural steel welding, paint and masonry work. The project was successfully completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
