Garden State Parkway 2015-2016 Bridge Inspection Program

HAKS is performing biennial inspection and evaluation services on 130 highway bridges and 44 sign structures along the Garden State Parkway (Milepost 123 to 149) for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA). Routine and in-depth inspections as well as courtesy inspections for structures owned by other agencies involve load and resistance factor rating using AASHTO’s Bridge Rating, Bridge Rating and Analysis of Structural Systems and MDX bridge software analysis.

All bridges receive full routine NBIS and element-level inspections and 100% hands-on inspection of fracture-critical members and fatigue-prone details and non-destructive testing, where needed. Sign structure inspections include masts/frames/arms, mast plumbness/arm levelness, cracks in welds and flange/base plates, loose/sheared/missing fasteners, footing defects, anchor bolts tightness and deteriorations and panel painting/legibility. Critical conditions are addressed through the issuance of Categorized Reports as per NJTA guidelines.
